Program Coordinator

Slow Money SLO is seeking a part-time Program Coordinator who is enthusiastic about local food & agriculture, detail oriented, organized, and comfortable working independently and in a team setting.

ABOUT SLOW MONEY SLO

Slow Money San Luis Obispo is a non profit organization that supports the sustainable growth of food, beverage, and farm businesses. The nonprofit accomplishes this through its programs - Small Business Coaching, Harvestly, and Farm to School Central Coast. Slow Money SLO was founded in 2012 and has supported dozens of food and beverage companies over the years. It launched Farm to School Central Coast in late 2020 to give small regional farmers access to more local institutional buyers. Harvestly joined Slow Money SLO in 2023 as an additional program  in order to center its mission on the community - any profits earned by the online market are given back to community organizations that serve populations in need.

POSITION OVERVIEW

In order to support the day to day management of the Farm to School and Harvestly programs, Slow Money SLO seeks a Program Coordinator that can work with the nonprofit team to accomplish a variety of tasks. The ideal candidate will have a flexible schedule with preferred availability on Tuesdays and Fridays. They will be comfortable working independently and in a team setting. They will be enthusiastic about local food and agriculture, and solving problems that improve program efficiency and efficacy.

The work will be dedicated to the Farm to School Central Coast and Harvestly programs where the candidate will train with the Farm to School and Harvestly Directors to understand procedures for coordinating farm to school commerce between small to medium sized farmers and institutional as well as individual customers.

SCOPE OF WORK

  • Understand Slow Money SLO operations, programs, and goals.

  • Understand work priorities and time needed to achieve expected results.

  • Become familiar with work tools including social media, e-commerce software, Google Drive, Canva, Mailchimp, Wix website builder.

  • Become proficient using e-commerce software, scheduling, and vendor/customer communications.

  • Maintain weekly inventory updates for farmers & food vendors, communicate availability to school districts, assist vendors with invoices as needed.

  • Assist the development of Farm to School outreach materials - videos, social media postings, flyers, etc. - to be shared with audiences.

  • Assist with the planning, coordination and execution of in-person school and/or farm events such as Meet the Farmer and farm tours.

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Academic background:  Communications & Marketing, Business Management or Administration, Agricultural Business, Systems Studies, or other applicable fields

  • Experience: Google Workspace Suite, Canva, Social Media (Facebook & Instagram), Data Management, Photography (preferred but not required), Spanish speaking (preferred but not required)

  • Skills: detail oriented, good time management, excellent communication (written and verbal), task oriented, works well with a team and independently, friendly, excited to learn, collaborative, and an active listener

HOURS & COMPENSATION

  • Work available for the position is expected to be 15-20 hours per week to start with the possibility to add more. 

  • Work is hourly with wages starting at $24-26/hour, depending on experience.

  • This position is grant funded through March 2025. Slow Money SLO has applied for further funding to extend this position and is awaiting approval.

  • No benefits are offered for this position
